Matthew Mitchell, MD
Dr. Matthew Mitchell joined Fremont Orthopaedics in February 2024. He has been practicing orthopaedics in Wyoming for a couple of decades, most recently in Casper. He is an Iowa native who graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with his bachelor’s degree and served in the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel and orthopaedic surgeon. Dr. Mitchell earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency training at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Mitchell later went to Australia to complete his foot and ankle surgery fellowship training at Royal North Shore Hospital and St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, New South Wales.

Dr. Matthew Mitchell is a distinguished orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of ankle, foot, hand, and knee-related issues. He is a board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeon who sees patients of all ages for general and trauma orthopaedic care. He has expertise in a range of procedures such as ligament reconstruction, knee replacement, cartilage transplantation, bone lengthening, and ultrasound-guided injections. Dr. Mitchell is known for his customized care approach that includes utilizing non-operative treatments as well as discussion of operative options with patients, tailoring his approach according to each patient's needs.
Additionally, Dr. Mitchell is fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery and sees patients for:
- traumatic injuries of the foot and ankle
- stress fractures of the foot
- ankle joint pain and ankle instability
- achilles tendinitis and achilles rupture
- morton’s neuromas and ganglion cysts
- bunions and hammertoes
- plantar fasciitis
- other musculoskeletal conditions of the foot and ankle
PERSONAL INTERESTS
When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Mitchell enjoys playing the bagpipes and swimming competitively. He participated in the World Masters Championships in Kazan, Russia, in 2016 and Montreal, Canada, in 2015, and he is also a USA Swimming official and referee at USA Swimming events.
